My wife and I met with some friends yesterday for our first group ride. We rode the Savage and the five bike group was made up of 2 Harley 1200 Sporters, 1 Yamaha v-star 650 and 1 Kawasaki Concourse 1100. We rode a little over 200 miles round trip to a scenic state park and back. I had trouble staying with the group at 65-70 miles per hour due to the wind making the Savage unstable, I actually took a beating. I don't have a windshield but looks like a purchase in the making. The Savage had enough power, I always had throttle left and the sharp turns were great. After 4 hours of riding, the bike became very uncomfortable for the both of us, my hips, neck and back were very sore possibly from resisting the wind so much. My wife's lower back began to spasm from pressing into the sissy bar, that may have been my fault for leaning back onto her causing her to hold both mine and her weight. It really became frustrating. We rode about 15 miles of interstate and scary would be a good word, the tractor trailers were blowing us all over the road. Everyone else seemed very relaxed and enjoying the view while I was fighting to stay caught up and upright. We really enjoy the Savage, but may have to consider a larger bike for this type of ride. Any tips for using the Savage two-up on distance would be appreciated. Will a windshield make enough difference for the money?
